Re: [phono-tx] Initial Consonant Deletion

Caroline,
Thanks for putting the red flag category into perspective. Sorry for the line.
I cannot seem to get rid of it, so am just proceeding.
By matching vowels, I mean that in words, he was not able to correctly produce
the adult target vowel, although we understood by context what he was saying. I
usually note when this involves diphthongs or contexts that include nasals, or
liquids that can color vowels. In his case, he had trouble in words where there
we no obvious influences of coarticulation with consonants. He appeared to have
trouble producing vowels and consonant sounds across the board. Currently, he
is no longer making significant vowel errors.
I hope this helps to explain my usage of "matching vowels." I'm going to take
stock of his sounds next week when I see him. Thanks for the advice to look at
his overall sound production. It's sort of where I was headed--making a list of
words where he displayed ICD, but takes in a bit larger picture.

RE: " Initially, he had difficulty matching vowels"

What does "matching vowels" mean here?

Best wishes,
