RE: [phono-tx] recordings in phonological therapy? [Scanned]

Re: Have you had any experience of using recordings in phonological therapy? Or do you know of reasons *not* to use recordings in phonological therapy?

__._Hi Sofia

I have recorded children and let them hear their own voices in therapy. I use a digital recorder which I can use to store and easily retrieve small samples. It has been useful for some of the 6+ year old children rather than the younger ones. I think the biggest drawback is the quality of the recordings and the resulting distortion of speech - accurate discrimination can be difficutl. Possibly with a bigger recorder it would be better, but I have to move between schools frequently and so I carry a voice recorder that is smaller than a mobile phone in my handbag all of the time.

I refer frequently to the psycholinguistic approach from

Stackhouse, J. & Wells, B. (1997) Children's Speech and Literacy Difficulties 1: A Psycholinguistic Framework. Whurr Publishers
Stackhouse, J. & Wells, B. eds (2001) Children's Speech and Literacy Difficulties 2: Identification and Intervention Whurr Publishers..___

You may find it interesting.
