Dixie Environmental Services Co. (DESCO) is actively seeking to fill multiple Field Archaeologist positions for Phase I Surveys working in conjunction with several 3-D seismic projects in Texas and Louisiana. These positions are temporary but can become full time. This posting is for an approximate 4-week duration. Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience, which will likely range from $170-$185/day (based on a 10-hour day), plus OT for hours over 40 in each given week (based on The Workforce Commission's OT formula for day rate employees, which is referenced in our employee handbook) .
Job duties and responsibilities include working in the field under the supervision of crew chiefs or project managers, conducting archaeological monitoring or survey with occasional use of ATVs, walking a minimum of 2 to 4 miles per day, and navigating with the use of GPS unit and/or map and compass. Applicants must have attention to detail, follow instruction and be able to work in often extreme environmental conditions, which includes dealing w/ the Texas and Louisiana heat. Yes, unfortunately, summer is still going strong in the south. Applicants must be physically fit to hike several miles a day and be able to carry large amounts of water to last throughout the days hiking and digging. Most of the time you will be working alone, but w/in radio distance of a co-worker.
At a minimum, applicants must possess a Bachelor's Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field and must have attended an accredited field school. Per diem rate is $35. Individual hotel room accommodations are provided.
