Cultural Resource Archaeologist (CRA)
Illinois State Archaeological Survey
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS), a division under the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, is seeking a CRA to conduct Phase I-III archaeological investigations for transportation projects in northern Illinois, interpret recovered materials, make recommendations on site significance, and prepare reports of findings meeting state and federal standards. This is a supervisory position with responsibilities including field investigations, laboratory analysis, and preparation of archaeological reports. The successful candidate must have a MA in archaeology or anthropology plus 3 years of relevant field experience, scientific and technical knowledge, and a familiarity with Eastern Woodlands archaeology as well as a demonstrated ability to finish projects and reports in a timely and competent manner. A CRA must be able to operate a motor vehicle, handle field equipment, utilize project location aids such as aerial, topographic, and electronic maps and GPS locational units, have demonstrated experience with GIS applications, digital geospatial databases, digital and photographic recording equipment, and various word processing software and be able to provide cartographic output and visualization strategies for report and projects.
Preference will be given to those candidates who have archaeological experience in northern Illinois. This is an academic professional position. Salary is negotiable based on experience.  Proposed starting date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
