Temporary Archaeological Field Technicians

JBR is currently seeking seasonal hourly field archaeologists for projects in the Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, and ID) for the upcoming field season.  Work could include pedestrian survey, shovel/auger probe or test excavations, and monitoring.  Assistance with site form preparation and reporting may also be included.

 

Successful candidates must be able to:

  • conduct pedestrian surveys over long distances
  • excavate and screen shovel probes/test units
  • conduct independent archaeological construction monitoring
  • recognize and document historic and prehistoric archaeological materials in a field setting
  • map sites using traditional compass/pacing mapping and the collection of GPS data using Trimble units
  • organize field notes and forms
  • work under physically demanding situations in all weather conditions
  • follow safety procedures around construction equipment and/or automobile traffic 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master�s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field
  • Completion of an archaeological field school (or equivalent experience)
  • Two years archaeology field experience in the Pacific Northwest with a range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring

 

Pay will be commensurate with education level and qualified work experience.  Projects based in the Puget Sound area will not include lodging or per diem.  Other projects may include $40 per diem and single room lodging will be provided.  To be considered for these positions, please submit pay requirements, a cover letter, resume, and at least three references to cr-recruiting@jbrenv.com
