[ShovelBums.Org] CCR Seeking Project Archaeologist for Tarboro North Carolia Office

 

Coastal Carolina Research (CCR), a subsidiary of Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc., has an immediate opening for a Project Archaeologist based in our office in historic Tarboro, NC. The ideal candidate will have a M.A. in anthropology/archaeology, an analytical specialization in precontact or historic archaeology of the Southeastern or Mid-Atlantic regions, and prior supervisory experience in cultural resources management. The successful applicant will lead crews conducting Phase I archaeological surveys, Phase II evaluations, and Phase III data recovery projects under the direction of a Principal Investigator and will also be responsible for analysis of results, archival research, and preparation of detailed reports meeting all applicable company and agency standards and guidelines.

Additional requirements of the position include:
•Excellent organizational skills for tracking field records, data, and progress
•Flexibility in terms of working independently as well as in a team structure
•Initiative in supervising and motivating crews to meet project goals
•Willingness to travel as necessary for project assignments
•Ability to work in a variety of conditions with occasional long hours, rugged terrain, and inclement weather
•Excellent writing skills and ability to produce reports in a timely manner
•Familiarity with Section 106 of the NHPA
•Ability to operate GPS and familiarity with GIS

This is a full-time position with permanent status after a six-month probation; salary range for this position is competitive and dependent on experience with opportunities for advancement and higher salary. Archaeologists in the CCR office typically work on a variety of projects covering the Coastal, Piedmont, Blue Ridge, and Mountain regions and often work closely with architectural historians in completing overall Section 106 documentation for compliance projects.
