[ShovelBums.Org] Supervisory and Field Archaeologists (Temporary) - Arizona and New Mexico

 

Environmental Planning Group (EPG) is seeking Supervisory Field Archaeologists and Archaeological Field Technicians to participate in several upcoming field projects throughout Arizona and New Mexico. Lodging and per diem will be provided. Compensation will be commensurate with responsibilities and experience. Local applicants are preferred, but consideration will be given to non-local applicants. Ideal candidates will possess a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and relevant field experience. All personnel engaged in this fieldwork must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for archaeology.

These are temporary, project-specific positions and will start in approximately two weeks. They are expected to last for 1 to 2 months. Exemplary candidates will be considered for additional and continuing work throughout the Southwest.

 

Supervisory Field Archaeologists

 

Responsibilities:

 

·                Ensure timely and proper recovery of data by field crews, including, but not limited to, archaeological survey, monitoring, site assessment, and excavation

·                Supervise archaeological crews and crew chiefs in the field and/or lab setting

·                Be responsible for and maintain field equipment

·                Follow EPG and Client guidelines on safety and conduct

·                Complete other tasks as directed

 

Qualifications:

 

·          Graduate degree with 1+ years of supervisory cultural resources experience, or BA/BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field with 5+ years of supervisory cultural resources experience

·         Ability to be listed in supervisory capacity on AZ and/or NM federal and state cultural resource permits

·         Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion

 

In addition to these minimum qualifications, the successful candidate will preferably have demonstrated experience in field mapping with a total station, Trimble, or similar electronic mapping devices.

 

Archaeological Field Technicians

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Archaeological survey (identification of isolated occurrences, features, and sites).

·         Archaeological excavation (Testing and Data Recovery).

·         Recording newly identified sites (use of digital camera, GPS equipment, written documentation, etc.).

·         Rerecording previously identified sites (relocating boundaries of sites, use of digital camera, GPS equipment, filling out paperwork, etc.).

·         Review and analysis of maps

·         Complete other tasks as directed

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Undergraduate degree in Anthropology or related field

·         Completion of field school and course work or field experience after field school
