We are seeking an Archaeological Specialist for our Vernal, UT office to lead and participate in all aspects of field archaeology including surveying, excavation, data recovery, monitoring, testing, file searching, data analysis, site form completion, report writing, and vehicle and equipment scheduling.
This is a temporary, full-time hourly position with minimal travel. Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience. Per diem is not provided unless the project requires travel to remote areas. The daily schedule may vary, but will generally include 40 hours per week, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime may be necessary on rare occasions. No work will be performed on federally recognized holidays.
The Archaeological Specialist must comply with all federal security and identification requirements, including background checks and credentials.
Required Skills
Assist the BLM in meeting regulatory requirements related to the Section 106 process
Comply with All SWCA and BLM health and safety procedures
Work effectively with various diverse groups as well as independently
Create an atmosphere of integration and efficiency
Ability to anticipate problems early and take action
Good verbal and written communication skills as well as listening skills
Good organizational and filing skills
Basic understanding of regulatory laws and regulation
Adapt rapidly to changes in project needs, agency requests, etc.
Ability to collaborate effectively with BLM leads and interdisciplinary specialists
Required Experience
B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology or related fields (graduate degree preferred)
Three years experience in Cultural Resource Management on a variety of projects
Specialized archaeological experience
Knowledge and general familiarity with the Bureau of Land Management, its mission, and functions
Utah BLM permitted - Great Basin or Statewide
Certified in Basic First Aid and CPR (SWCA can provide training if needed)
