Archive Technician
The Great Basin Institute is working cooperatively with Death Valley national Park to recruit up to two (2) Archive Technicians. The role of the Technician(s) is to process, arrange, describe, catalog, and provide access to archival collections according to NPS museum and records management policies and procedures. Additionally, the Archive Technicians assists the Museum Curator with broader museum tasks, including annual inventories, cataloging museum specimens, and rehousing collections. Lastly, the Technician(s) will utilize the Department of the Interior's automated cataloging system and procedures to catalog and manage museum and archive collections.
Compensation and Timeline:
o Rate of Pay: $18.59/hour
o Annual appointment beginning in June 2011 (or upon availability); likely extension for up to 14 weeks pending positive performance review
o Full time, 40 hours per week
Location:
The Death Valley National Park Curatorial and Research Facility is the Park's storage facility for the museum and archive collection. The collection contains over 50,000 archeology items, 80,000 historic objects, 20,000 natural history specimens, and 500 linear feet of archives. The facility also houses the Park's library collection.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in archives management or related field (history, museum studies, library science, etc.);
o Minimum of one year of related experience or one year of graduate studies in archives management or related field;
o Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a diverse audience; and
o Self-motivated and self-directed individual who is capable of working independently or part of team toward mutual goals and objectives.
