The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS), a Division of the Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is seeking a Historic Architectural Compliance Specialist for its Research Office in Springfield, Illinois. This individual will document and evaluate historic and architectural resources (buildings and bridges) for the Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) and the Department
of Transportation (IDOT) in accordance with the rules and regulations of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR 61, Appendix A) and the Illinois State Agency Historic Resources Preservation Act (20 ILCS 3420).

Duties include evaluating standing architectural resources (buildings and bridges), reviewing IDOT environmental survey requests and project photo logs, making recommendations for Section 106 eligibility, preparing documents for architectural resource compliance, maintaining structure recordation and evaluation files, maintaining IDOT�s Historic Bridge Survey list and website, crafting agreements for the mitigation of adverse effects to historic bridges and buildings, and conducting
public engagement activities that highlight the historic preservation practices of IDOT and ISAS.

The successful candidate must have a MA in architectural history, preservation, or closely related field plusexperience in carrying out compliance tasks associated with Federal Section 106 and historic preservation activitiesas well as a demonstrated ability to finish projects and reports in a timely and competent manner. Candidates must have basic knowledge of U.S. history and architectural history, preference given to Midwestern specialists. Preference given to candidates with working knowledge of documentary research methods, familiarity with both print and electronic media sources, and ability to report findings in standard academic formats, using both digital photography, and computerized word and data processing formats (e.g., WORD, EXCEL, Photoshop, etc.).

This is an academic professional position. Salary range is $28,560 to $40,000. Proposed starting date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
