URS Corporation is seeking a Project Archaeologist – Dallas, Texas

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Bachelor's degree in Archaeology/Anthropology  with a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience.

Masters degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or other archaeology-related discipline can substitute for 1 or 2 years of work experience.

 

Must have the ability to fully plan and execute personal assignments with limited instructions.

 

Must have knowledge of GPS Units, use of GIS and topographic maps, site records and reports to identify locations where sites can occur.

 

Must have good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

 

Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time.

 

Must be familiar with DOT's, NEPA documentation, historic archaeology and artifact analysis.

 

Position Description:

 

The Project Archaeologist conducts field work; assists the Principal Investigator and Section Manager in implementing archaeological Phase I, Phase II, and Phase II efforts; analyzes prehistoric and historic artifacts and assists in the preparation of reports of findings.  He/she supports the Cultural Resource Section Lead in regulatory compliance for support of all Federal, State, Municipal and/or commercial clients.

 

Other responsibilities include:

 

Performs and/or leads fieldwork surveys, excavation, monitoring, laboratory analysis and interpretation under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

Collects information and makes judgments through observation, interviews and the review of documents.

Assists the Principal Investigator in the planning and directing of research to characterize and compare the traditional, economic, demographic, health care, social, political, linguistic and religious institutions of distinct cultural groups, communities and organizations.

Assists and/or leads in the writing, presenting and publishing of reports that record site history, methodology and artifact analysis results, along with recommendations for conserving and interpreting findings.

Works with technical field and office staff, managers and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet IE quality standards.

Interacts with clients and regulatory agencies.

Assists with agency and Native American consultation.

Performs work that involves assisting with archaeological/anthropological inventory, evaluation, and data recovery efforts. 

Participates in fieldwork and/or laboratory analyses.

Conducts pre-field or post-field research.

Assists with construction monitoring.

May be a task manager or manage small segments of projects.

May help with obtaining subcontractor quotes.

May assign tasks to and coordinate work with entry-level staff.

Provides general support and direction to more junior employees on routine field assignments and strives for safe conduct on assignments.

Independent completion of letter reports and short reports.

Deliver projects on-time.

Conduct projects within budgets.
