This posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Division.

The position is located on the Island of Oahu.

Salary: $70,000/yearly.

Duties Summary:

This position is responsible for administering and directing the daily operations of the Archaeological Branch of the State Historic Preservation Division. Duties and responsibilities include planning and budgeting for branch activities, oversight of branch staff to ensure standards are consistently applied and that established timeframes for review work are met, and assisting in developing and implementing preservation initiatives that promote economic development.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Citizen Requirement: Applicants must be citizens, permanent resident aliens, or nationals of the United States. Non-citizens with unrestricted employment authorization from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service may also apply.

Knowledge: Must be familiar with State and Federal burial and historic preservation laws, rules and regulations; must be able to interpret and apply laws and regulations; must have knowledge of archaeological field standards and have the ability to independently identify adherence to these standards. Must also be familiar with Microsoft Office, GIS, and ArcView. Must demonstrate knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act and Hawaii Revised Statutes, Chapter 6E.

Skills/Abilities: Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies, professional or lay groups, public officials, and the general public; supervise and direct the statewide archaeological preservation program; express ideas in a clear and concise manner and prepare clear and concise reports. Must be able to read and interpret design and construction plans.

Education Requirements:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Archaeology or Physical Anthropology.

Experience Requirements:
Four (4) years of experience conducting historic preservation reviews for archaeological projects, and a demonstrated record in historic preservation work, i.e. restoration, inventory creation and maintenance, and plan development. In addition, two of the four years of experience must include work of a supervisory nature, such as directing and managing the operations of a work team, project planning and workflow distribution, budgeting and project evaluation.

License Requirements: Applicants must possess a valid State of Hawaii driver's license and meet the NPS qualifications for an Archaeologist.

Physical/Mental Requirements: Applicants must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position effectively and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation. Applicants must be physically able to participate in rough terrain field work. This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature.
