[ShovelBums.Org] GIS Specialist Needed for New Cultural Resources Firm - KalosCR

 

 

KalosCR is seeking to hire a Geographic Information Systems specialist with experience in cultural resources management projectsAppropriate experience, references, and work examples are highly important considerations during our applicant review and selection process.  This position is located in Rapid City, South Dakota.

The successful candidate can work independently, supervise others, and produce high quality work products that consistently meet or exceed our own high standards and state/Federal review agency requirements.  We will place emphasis on prior Section 106 review and compliance experience, or NEPA experience, for state and Federal agencies.   

Projects will be surveys, site evaluations, excavation, tribal consultation, THPO support, documents research, National Environmental Policy Act analyses, historic context development, data recording, mitigation, and more.  We currently have ongoing projects from Alaska to Oregon, to Colorado and across to Ohio and are expanding to other areas. 

The position is responsible for developing and maintaining geographic, political and environmental databases; designing and updating GIS databases using various mathematics techniques, such as coordinate geometry, conversion of vectors and real analysis.  Must be proficient knowledge of computer software programs used in cartography is integral to job function, and have the ability to interpret aerial photographs then transfer and/or rescale them to geographic maps. Performing geospatial modeling, analysis and data manipulation is necessary.

Candidates must demonstrate appropriate professional and personal skills particular to the profession, region and industries served.

 Skills highly desirable in a potential employee include:

  • common sense and the ability to think for oneself, assess a situation and draw reasonable conclusions based on studying the facts;
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills which will allow one to deal effectively with the public, private landowners, clients, regulatory personnel, supervisors and co-workers;
  • customer service;
  • ability to follow and give written or verbal instructions;
  • knowledge and implementation of appropriate safety practices;
  • excellent technical and grammatical writing skills and reading comprehension;
  • knowledge and familiarity with computers and software such as MS Office, Adobe Photoshop Elements, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, internet, AllTopo map software and e-mail functions;
  • Trimble, Topcon, and Magellan Professional GPS equipment and general office equipment operation;
  • drafting and drawing skills and knowledge of various maps, mapping techniques and map reading;
  • knowledge of approaches to marketing and promoting the profession, the company and yourself;

This position includes

  • Vacation, and Retirement programs;
  • Starting pay range expected over $30,000 per year depending on past experience and duties assigned;
  • Paid Holidays;
