[ShovelBums.Org] Cultural Resources Principal Investigator - Salt Lake City, UT

 

SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of environmental professionals who specialize in natural and cultural resource management, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance.

 

We are actively seeking a Principal Investigator for the Cultural Resources Program in our Salt Lake City, Utah office. The ideal candidate will assist the Program Director and other Principal Investigators with project coordination and quality control for cultural resource management projects and expand SWCA's professional reputation in archaeological and historical consulting and research. This is a regular, full-time salaried position and will report to the Cultural Resources Program Director. Salary will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

·       Help develop and maintain the SWCA quality assurance/quality control program and ensure that all fieldwork, analysis, and report production is conducted in accordance with the QA/QC plan;

·       Remain current with Agency protocol for conducting cultural resources work, particularly in Utah, Nevada, and Idaho;

·       Manage budgets, prepare proposals, reports, and other technical documents, monitor field procedures, and author Research Designs, Treatment Plans, and other technical documents;

·       Oversee all aspects of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production;

·       Establish project procedures and budgetary constraints and assure that projects are concluded within budget and on time;

·       Conduct content edits of technical reports and site forms;

·       Assist with training and mentoring cultural resources staff in topics including NRHP eligibilities, implementation of research designs, and site recording protocols;

·       Take initiative, resolve problems, and create improved procedures to assure tasks are completed in the most effective manner;

·       Comply with SWCA and client safety programs, and assist in the development of such programs;

·       Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and clients;

·       Work closely with SWCA's other managers and directors, in the Salt Lake Office and in all offices throughout the company, to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values;

·       Promote SWCA in the scientific community through professional presentations, participation in professional conferences, and coordinating the participation of other staff members in professional conferences.

 

Qualifications:

·       Ph.D. in archaeology strongly preferred. Individuals with a completed Ph.D. will be given priority, though ABD individuals or individuals with an M.A. and extensive experience will be considered

·       Past peer-reviewed publication record and conference presentation experience preferred

·       Emphasis in Great Basin Archaeology and a current technical specialization (e.g., lithic analysis, GIS, architectural history, etc.)

·       At least five (5) years supervisory and fieldwork experience

·       Must be currently permitted by Public Lands Policy Coordination Office (PLPCO) and Utah Bureau of Land Management (BLM), or qualified for both. Qualified for Nevada BLM and State Permits is a plus. Ability to be listed on various federal and state cultural resource permits in other states a plus

·       Listed as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (or qualified for RPA status)

·       Experience with content edits of reports and a solid background of scheduling and budgeting of projects related to cultural resources

·       Ability to coordinate personnel and other resources within budgetary constraints

·       Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and to effectively train and mentor junior staff

·       Exceptional technical writing skills and a record of completing and editing technical reports in a timely fashion

·       Experience with NEPA, and Section 106

·       Ability to work independently as well as oversee small or large projects by working closely with Field Managers and Project Managers

·       Adept at working with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives

·       A commitment to fiscal and scheduling responsibilities for projects of all sizes and scopes

·       Experience involving PI-level review of projects with historic resources a plus

·       Must demonstrate completion, at a PI level, of a minimum of one (three or more a plus) testing or data recovery excavation projects involving primarily prehistoric archeological investigations and preparation of final reports consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation. Projects shall have been performed under the jurisdiction of the National Historic Preservation Act.
