RATE OF PAY:                        $27.00 HR

INTRODUCTION:  The Spokane Tribe, as a sovereign government with expanding duties to regulate and manage its cultural resources, has a need for archaeological services for the Tribal Preservation Program on the Spokane Indian Reservation.  The Spokane Tribal Preservation Program provides Sec. 106 and Sec. 110 services for Bonneville Power Authority (BPA) as well as 1282 Cultural Compliance Services for off reservation entities.  The (P.I.) Principal Investigator reports directly to the Heritage Coordinator.

 

Major Duties:

 

  • Principal Investigator will work with the Preservation Collections Dept. with regard to cultural resource and museum/repository services management (this is to include consultation with the Tribal Historic Preservation Office);
  • Archeological services regarding cultural resource survey, sub-surface testing, data recovery, and management of collections and computerized information systems;
  • Training and coordination with the field crew supervisor in supervision of tribal archaeological personnel in the full range of archaeological field activities, including, but not limited to, the federal NHPA section 106 process and Section 110 Inventory requirements;
  • Training the Preservation Office staff in preservation methodology, cultural transmission program activities, and other Preservation Program activities as deemed appropriate by the Tribe;
  • Services with the Program's preservation compliance department, tribal fund 1282.  He/She will orchestrate other sub-contractual activities as the need may arise;
  • Document and prepare necessary reports for deliverables as the Principal Investigator of the Spokane Tribe of Indians.
  • Assist the tribe in burial recoveries when needed

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·      Master degree in Archaeology, or other closely related discipline.

·      At least three (3) years professional work experience in related field.

·      Prefer experience working with Native American Tribes.

·      Applicant must have ability to represent Tribe in professional, competent manner.

·      Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various Tribal staff, as well as outside agency personnel and the general public. 

·      Must be able to demonstrate skills in writing concisely and with clarity. 

·      Must have skills in utilizing computers for word processing and to collect and manage data. 

·      Knowledgeable in Osteology

·      Must have public speaking skills, and be able to conduct meetings

·      Ability to work well with others. 

·      Must have valid driver's license, good driving record and be tribally insurable.
