ERM is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Architectural Historian to join our global consulting firm as part of our cultural heritage team. Based out of our Washington, DC office, the successful candidate will provide business development, project management and senior technical assistance for architectural and historic landscape reconnaissance and evaluation studies for clients both in the United States and internationally.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior professional looking to advance his or her career level with a global environmental leader.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conduct research and writing for the built and living heritage components of ESHIA, NHPA Section 106, and NEPA documents and related permitting requirements for large-scale capital development projects.
· Provide leadership and technical skills to support the growth of ERM’s business and client base in the area of architectural history, history, and heritage management for built resources.
· Prepare Programmatic Agreements and Memoranda of Agreement for various Federal agencies under NHPA Section 106.
· Build networking relationships with other practice areas within ERM to share multi-disciplinary resources and best practices across the industry.
· Represent ERM through communications and at meetings with state, federal and local agencies.
· Communicate regularly with clients via email and phone conferences.
· Creatively solve problems to optimize a client-favorable outcome.
· Prepare proposals to meet client requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Masters degree in Architectural History, History or Historic Preservation.
· 10 to 15 years of experience in the field of architectural history.
· Hands on experience with Programmatic Agreements and Memoranda of Agreement under NHPA Section 106.
· Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Standard for Architectural History (36 CFR Part 61).
· Fluency in French and/or Spanish a plus.
· Extensive fieldwork experience with the ability to work within the US and internationally.
· Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion.
· Excellent communication and computer skills.
· Demonstrated business development abilities.
· Ability to work within a team as well as independently.
· Extensive travel required.
