Responsibilities:
The Burnaby office of Golder Associates Ltd. is seeking an Intermediate Archaeologist to join our team. The candidate will work in our Burnaby Office with members of the Cultural Resource Management Group in Burnaby and across B.C. assisting with the design, implementation, execution, and management of projects.
The key responsibilities of this position will include and are not limited to the following:
Strong field skills such as archaeological survey, assessment, and mitigation work;
Experience in conducting laboratory and office-based tasks such as proposal writing, background research, artifact cataloguing and analysis, site form preparation, technical report writing and client/government regulator interactions;
It is expected that the candidate will be able to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment
The candidate must be willing to travel, work in remote areas and on occasion be required to be away from home for extended periods.
Qualifications and skills:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
An undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or equivalent;
A minimum of three years of field experience, preferably coastal experience and primarily in a consulting environment;
Required to be a Coastal permit holder or equivalency in qualifications;
Permit holder or field director status in other BC culture areas would be an asset but is not required;
Archaeological technical skills in faunal or lithic analysis would be an asset;
Experience working with First Nations community groups;
Ability to liaise effectively with clients, government regulators, and other stakeholders;
As this position will entail working in the field for extended periods of time with appropriate field gear, it is expected that individuals will be physically fit and capable of working in these conditions;
Proven technical writing skills;
Proven oral communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to contribute to and take on a leadership role in a team work environment as well as to work independently;
Provide effective direction in training and supporting field crew members;
Strong organizational skills;
Solid aptitude in MS Office;
Knowledge of, and comfort with, electronic devices such as survey instruments;
Strong navigational skills including compass, GPS, and reading maps and development plans;
Valid BC Driver's license (Class 5) with clean driving record; and
A commitment to health and safety leadership.
