[ShovelBums.Org] Summer Public Archeology Educator Volunteer Positions Available (in MD and OK)

Position Title: Public Archeology Educator
Supervisor: Time Team Field School Director

Purpose: Assist in facilitating an archeology science camp for students ages 11 -17. The activities could include field excavations, field trips and museums, and laboratory visits.

About Time Team:
Part adventure, part hard science, part reality show, Time Team America takes viewers deep into the trenches of some of America's most interesting and important archaeological sites. The team descends with a wealth of technology and expertise, using a variety of remote sensing methods to gather spatially referenced data. By processing and interpreting these data, the team identifies promising places to excavate, literally jump-starting the research. Then, for three days, the story is driven by questions—mysteries the team tries to solve using evidence. Viewers enjoy an over-the-shoulder view of excavators at work, eavesdrop on intense conversations among the experts, and share the rush of discovery as artifacts emerge from the ground and undergo scrutiny and scientific analysis. Viewers feel like they are part of the dig and the work at hand as archaeologists and experts have to continually revise their hypotheses about the past as evidence comes to light. Watch episodes from Time Team America's first season at pbs.org/opb/timeteam.

Time Team's Field Schools:
While OPB producers and crews are filming episodes of Time Team America for Season Two, experts in informal science education will run Field Schools for middle- and high school- aged youth in locations near the dig sites. The Field School will utilize a question framework that embodies the spirit of the Time Team America television program as well as the spirit of inquiry inherent in archaeology and the scientific method.

At each of the four digs, approximately 40 youth will engage with professional scientists, participate in excavation and lab work, and classify and document artifacts, working as archaeologists do to reconstruct and understand the past. These young people will also get the chance to blog about their experience and share their enthusiasm and knowledge with families and peers. Understanding that out-of-school camps and programs can expose young people to new experiences and ideas, changing how they feel about themselves and their place in the world, OPB is eager to extend the ethos of Time Team America to a potential next generation of scientists and archaeologists.

Benefits of Position:
• Gain hands on experience working directly with the public, educating them on archeology and STEM.

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc...  Caveat Emptor though my friends.  Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work.  If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service.   You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum"  - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
