LBL (www.lbl.org)is hiring a 1-year term archaeology technician (GS-0102-07) with the possibility of up to 4-year rollover as long as need and funding exist.
This position is responsible for providing technical support to the heritage resources staff. You will be trained and supervised in field and office by heritage professional staff until our comfort level is reached at which time you may carry out field work more independently. Our goal is to help you reach the level of senior technician on archeological surveys, ensuring work is accomplished within established rules and methods. Your supervisor will make assignments by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines and will provide guidance on the possible approach to resolve questionable areas of the assignment and methods to be used.
Archeological Data and/or Documentation Preparation 50%
Fieldwork in Support of Archeological Surveys 50%
Desired skills include (but the right candidate will leave with these skills if they don't arrive with them!):
Strong computer skills including databases, Microsoft Office programs, and knowledge of and experience with GIS
Field surveys, ability to read a topographic map, GPS data collection, create site records, and carry out other field mapping and data collection
Research reference materials, interview sources
Artifact collection, analysis, processing, and accessioning
Good writing skills in order to prepare cultural resource survey reports and site records
This position may include the opporunity to help serve as a member of an integrated resource team so strong verbal and people skills are a plus
This position requires someone as interested, diligent, and organized in the office as much (and sometimes more so) as in the field
