Re: [phono-tx] syllabic spoonerisms

Speechkat,

Re: elephant

Some children have difficulty sequencing the sounds/syllables in multisyllabic
words. With these children I first determine if the breakdown occurs at the
three or four syllable level. I have word lists with 3 and 4 syllable words. I
work on the list of words that present the first stumbling block. If a child has
difficulty repeating 3 syllable words, I start there. The words can be beyond
the vocabulary of the child. But since this is a task of sound sequencing, not
vocabulary, it doesn't matter.

Re: very

I would be interested to know if the child's production of this word is a part
of a pattern or if this child just has trouble with "very" during conversational
speech. If it is idiosyncratic, I would practice the word in isolation, 2 word
combos, then sentences.
