Job Title:
Archaeological Field Technicians and Crew Chiefs
Job Description:
Transcon Environmental, a growing environmental consulting firm, is looking to fill the positions of archaeological field technician and crew chief.
Previous field experience is preferred. Project activities may include conducting archaeological testing and data recovery excavations and performing field survey. Other responsibilities may include office activities, such as report preparation, background literature research, and providing support for multi-disciplinary senior staff. Experience working with maps (topos, etc.) and word processing software is desired.
The main Transcon office is located in Mesa, Arizona. Transcon specializes in environmental planning and analysis on projects throughout the western United States.
Applicants should be physically fit for walking 5-10 miles per day in rugged terrain where temperatures often reach above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, applicants should be able to lift loads weighing up to 30 pounds. Employees may be asked to work more than 40 hours per week and 10 or more hours per day and to work up to 10 consecutive days away from home. Transcon pays overtime. However, Transcon does not guarantee 40 hours per week as the position is project need based. Travel will be provided from the Mesa, Arizona office to the project site. Applicant must have their own transportation to the Mesa office location and have a clean driving record in order to drive the company vehicles in the field if needed. Housing is only provided for out of town stay and not provided for between projects or for work near the Phoenix Metro area. Transcon does not pay per diem, but does reimburse receipts for food while traveling. Transcon prefers applicants that live in or near the Phoenix Metro area, but will consider anyone who can secure their own housing and travel arrangements between projects or on days off.
The ability to travel out of town is a necessity.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc... Caveat Emptor though my friends. Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work. If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service. You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum" - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
