ERM is seeking an Archaeological Principal Investigator to join our global consulting firm as part of our cultural resources team. Based in Houston, TX, the successful candidate will serve as a Secretary of the Interior-qualified Principal Investigator in Archaeology on projects throughout the Western U.S. The position includes business development, agency consultation, client advisory, fieldwork, supervisory, research, and writing duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Expand the client base for CRM in the region through business development.
Perform research at various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) and related facilities, and on-line.
Perform Area of Potential Effect (APE) structure surveys under the guidance of ERM's architectural historian.
Perform Phase I, II, and III archaeological fieldwork and report on results.
Perform construction monitoring and producing appropriate reports.
Prepare submittals for SHPO review.
Negotiate with state and federal agencies in cases of disagreement with recommended findings, and for difficult cases.
Assist with Tribal consultation, including escorting tribal representatives to visit project sites.
Perform local consultation.
Respond to public comments.
Provide additional information as requested by SHPO, Tribes, local governments, and members of public.
Represent ERM through communications and at meetings with state, federal, and local agencies.
Communicate regularly with clients via email and phone conferences.
Creatively solve problems to optimize a client-favorable outcome.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES FOR WHICH TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED:
Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments per ASTM Standard.
Collect field data for natural resources compliance submittals.
Track the progress of numerous telecommunications projects through the entire compliance process.
REQUIREMENTS:
Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards to perform duties for Section 106 and NEPA compliance, pertaining especially to FCC-related undertakings:
o Masters degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, with a focus on Archaeology.
o At least 4 years of experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion.
Demonstrated business development abilities.
Hold or be able to obtain a permit to work on state and public lands in western states.
Extensive travel required.
Excellent communication and computer skills.
Telecommunications and oil & gas industry experience.
Ability to work within a team as well as independently.
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, manage budgets, develop proposals, handle multiple project assignments, meet strict deadlines, and travel to client facilities
