Environmental Planning Group (EPG) is seeking Archaeological Monitors and Field Technicians for a large monitoring project in southern Oregon. Per diem/working day and single-occupancy rooms, if available, will be provided. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. This is a project-specific position and does not include additional benefits; however, there is the possibility for full-time employment after field work is completed. Candidates must be able to commit to between 1-4 months of work in Oregon. All personnel working on this project must pass a drug test and background check.
Responsibilities for Field Technicians:
Be able to carry at least 35 lbs over rugged terrain
Able to work in variable weather
Excavation and survey experience
Complete other tasks as needed and/or directed
Qualifications for Field Technicians:
B.A. or B.S. in archaeology, anthropology, or closely-related field
Experience with excavating, or at least one field school
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Responsibilities for Monitors:
Monitor construction activities
Identify artifacts and other cultural items in the field
Maintain log and photo logs of monitoring activities
Communicate monitoring activities with supervisors and project directors
Follow EPG and Client guidelines on safety and conduct
Complete other tasks as needed and/or directed
Monitors may also be asked to perform excavation and other field tasks
Qualifications for Montors:
B.A. or B.S. in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field
Experience monitoring construction projects and mitigating concerns/questions/comments between the project proponent, Native American tribes, Federal and State agencies, and the contractors
Archaeological field experience (2-5+ years preferably)
Extensive knowledge of Oregon State and Federal laws as they pertain to cultural resources
Excellent communication and organizational skills
In addition to these minimum qualifications, the successful candidate will preferably be extremely organized, professional, discrete, responsible, efficient, able to make quick and informed decisions, knowledgeable, confident, and able to deal with project flux and take charge of logistical challenges.
