The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS), a Division of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, is seeking a Field Station Coordinator at its American Bottom Field Station located in Wood River, Illinois.  This individual will have overall responsibility for managing the field station's administrative, field, laboratory, and analytical archaeological activities.  The ABFS conducts archaeological activities throughout southwestern Illinois and is currently conducting the multi-year mitigation excavations at the East St. Louis Metro site as part of the New Mississippi River Bridge Project. The Field Station Coordinator is the point of contact between the Field Station and the Director. Manages and organizes all Field Station activities, facilities, and vehicles and is administratively and professionally responsible for implementing program priorities and setting goals, objectives, and expectations. Hires/recruits staff and oversees evaluation, discipline and termination of crew. Current staffing of the ABFS is approximately 80 crew and staff. Generally functions as the lead archaeologist for all major field and analytical undertakings, providing expertise and advice to subordinates to effectively structure and control the work to ensure that archaeological fieldwork and report preparation is performed competently and in a timely manner. Acts as a liaison to other campus and community groups and various state and private organizations disseminating information about ISAS to expand internal and external program development and outreach.
 
The successful candidate must have a MA (or its equivalent) in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field, plus 5-10 years of relevant field experience, scientific and technical knowledge in Eastern Woodlands archaeology, a basic familiarity with Federal and Illinois historic and burial laws, as well as a demonstrated ability to finish projects and reports in a timely and competent manner. Preference will be given to those candidates who have demonstrated archaeological excavation and analysis experience in Illinois archaeological sites. Must have a basic familiarity with computer word processing, graphic, and database programs.  Must have a valid driver's license.  This is an academic professional position. Salary is negotiable based on experience.  Proposed starting date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
