Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting, Inc. (CMEC), a small Austin-based environmental and cultural-resources firm, is looking for multiple archaeological field technicians for a Cameron County, Texas survey beginning April 3, 2011 and likely lasting 1 week. Average rate $15/hr, $36 per diem (no receipts required), single occupancy hotel room provided. Minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, geology or related field; completion of recognized field school; ability to perform all tasks associated with the job (e.g., keep clear, complete field records; correctly use Munsell charts and other standard field tools and resources; perform physically demanding fieldwork all day [walking, digging deep shovel tests] in warm, humid conditions). Preferred: applicants who are located in Central or South Texas and who could either travel with CMEC personnel from Austin or meet on-site. Please send business-style resume or short academic-style CV to Chris Dayton at chris@coxmclain.com; phone 512-338-2223. Apologies for the last minute notice; a team had been established for this project but conflicts arose for several members.

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPOs, etc... Caveat Emptor though my friends. Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work. If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service. You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum" - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
