Quality Services, Inc. with our main office in Rapid City, South Dakota wishes to hire staff including one or more principal investigator(s) in archeology or history. All college degrees must be from properly accredited schools in the United States or Canada.
Most projects will be surveys, site evaluations, excavation, analysis, or documents research. Work will occur in a wide variety of areas from Alaska to Indiana, including Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, and other states.
Work will include directing multiple ongoing projects throughout this wide geographic area. Candidates must be skilled in both field and office work including able to walk 10 or more miles per day carrying personal field and safety equipment. Inclement weather can be expected year round. Approximately half of the work will be in the field and half will be in an office. Substantial overnight travel is required possibly for extended periods.
Candidates must demonstrate appropriate professional, supervisory, and personal skills particular to the profession, region and industries served.
The successful candidate will also need to supply personal field equipment.
Skills highly desirable in a potential employee include:
- common sense, ability to think for oneself, assess a situation and draw reasonable conclusions based on studying the facts;
- good interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with the public, private landowners, clients, regulatory personnel, supervisors and co-workers;
- the ability to follow and give written or verbal instructions;
- knowledge and implementation of appropriate safety practices;
- excellent technical and grammatical writing skills and reading comprehension;
- knowledge and familiarity with computers and software such as MS Office, Adobe Photoshop Elements, ArcGIS, internet, AllTopo, and e-mail functions;
- digital photography skills;
- Trimble, Topcon, and Magellan GPS equipment;
- general office equipment;
- geophysical survey equipment operation and analysis experience;
- drafting and drawing skills and knowledge of various maps, mapping techniques and map reading;
- knowledge of approaches to marketing and promoting the profession, the company and yourself.
- Register of Professional Archaeologists certification
- Federal agency or State SHPO report review experience
This position may be either hourly wage rate or salaried and can include
- Leave
- Wages/Salary from $33,000 to $40,000 or more per year depending on experience, skills, references, and work quality
