CULTURAL RESOURCE SPECIALIST OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE:

FIELD CREW/CREW CHIEF/LAB DIRECTOR

 (#ABQ1108)

Would you like to work for a company that aspires to live its core values of integrity, compassion, collaboration, fun, client service, and employee ownership?

Parametrix is seeking experienced cultural resource specialists for several fieldwork positions (field crew members, crew chief, and laboratory director) for an archaeological testing/data recovery project at a twentieth-century historic mining site in northern Idaho.  Experience with historic site excavation is required of the lab director and crew chief, and highly desired for crew members.

Field Crew Members/Crew Chief position duties will include:

  • Participation in and/or supervision of archaeological excavation and mapping, including use of total station and GPS equipment, excavation of test units, and monitoring of backhoe excavations.
  • Completion of field forms (crew members)/quality-control review of crew field forms (crew chief).
  • Assisting with field laboratory processing of artifacts and samples, as needed (crew chief and crew members)
  • Opportunities for additional work for crew members/crew chief following the 2011 field season are possible, including processing of artifacts and reporting tasks.

Laboratory Director:  Will run the field laboratory during the 2011 field season and assist the principal investigator with sample and artifact processing, analysis, and curation—beginning work before the 2011 summer field season and afterward for an additional 15 months.

The successful candidates should have experience/expertise in archaeological excavation. Some college-level coursework in anthropology/archaeology, including completion of a field school, is required of crew members.  A degree in anthropology/archaeology is required of the crew chief and the lab director. Candidates for lab director should have familiarity with early-twentieth-century artifacts, curation methods, artifact databases, and photographing artifacts.

Travel is required to the work site, which is located on the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, near Wallace, Idaho.  Housing and meals will be provided, at a temporary work camp to be established at the site.  Round-trip travel costs (one trip at start and end of field season) to the project site will be reimbursed. Fieldwork is expected to begin in early July 2011 and extend through late September 2011 (weather permitting).

We have an employee-ownership culture where we seek and value the ideas of employees and challenge each other to reach our greatest potential.  Parametrix offers an exceptional benefits package, exciting project work, and a corporate commitment to work/life balance.  Please submit a letter of interest and resume through our website. www.parametrix.com

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc...  Caveat Emptor though my friends.  Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work.  If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service.   You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum"  - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
