[ShovelBums.Org] Paleontological Resources Field Technicians - Pasadena, CA

 

SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of cultural and natural resource scientists and planners. Our professionals specialize in natural and cultural resource management, environmental planning, regulatory compliance, and sustainability services.

We are currently accepting resumes from qualified individuals to fill Paleontological Field Technician positions to support projects in California and Nevada. These positions are temporary and hourly, and will be based in the Pasadena Office working under the direction of the Paleontology Lead. Pay will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Lodging and per diem will be provided for field employees that cannot commute from home on a daily basis for projects located outside of the greater Los Angeles area. Candidates must be available to work during the months of June through August 2011.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
SWCA paleontological field technicians will:
• Assist with field surveys, construction mitigation monitoring, excavations and fossil salvages, and other field tasks as needed;
• Provide thorough, accurate and efficient collection and recordation of paleontologic, lithologic and stratigraphic data and;
• Assist with laboratory fossil preparation, data management, and data analysis.

Qualifications:
• A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Geology or similar with education or equivalent training in paleontology and sedimentary geology is required (a Masters degree is preferable). Candidates with an AS or AA degree in geology, paleontology, or biology and four years' experience in paleontological fieldwork in California may be considered;
• Prior paleontological field experience in California is required;
• Prior experience with paleontological mitigation monitoring projects, and the ability to measure stratigraphic sections and describe sedimentary rocks is highly desirable;
• Candidates must be able to conduct fieldwork for long hours in sometimes inclement weather conditions, including walking up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain, and be able to carry various types of field equipment and supplies;
• Must have the ability to use excavation tools and;
• Applicants must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record, and must comply with SWCA safety policies.

Candidates must have current eligibility to work in the United States. SWCA does not provide sponsorship for work visas at this time.
