[ShovelBums.Org] Archaeological and Paleontological Field Technicians (southern California)

 

PCR Services Corporation, a southern California environmental planning and consulting firm, is seeking archaeological and paleontological field technicians to assist us on an as-needed basis with upcoming projects in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange counties.  These are temporary, hourly positions and salary will be commensurate with experience, individual qualifications, and industry standards.  Candidates with California field experience and who are based in the areas of a respective project will be strongly preferred. 

 

Responsibilities will include archaeological or paleontological survey, excavation (testing and/or data recovery), and/or construction monitoring.  Recordation tasks such as digital photography, sketching, mapping (GPS), note-taking and field form preparation will be required for these positions.  The technicians will work under the direction of a Crew Chief and/or Project Manager.                  

The ideal candidate shall have minimally a B.A or B.S. in Anthropology, Archaeology, Paleontology, Geology, or closely related field, completed an accredited archaeological field school, and/or at least 6 months experience conducting fieldwork in California.  Exceptions may be made on an individual basis.  The candidates must be task-oriented, have a positive attitude, and have the ability to work in both group and individual settings.  The technicians must be physically fit, willing to travel, able to lift up to 30 pounds, able to perform all aspects of archaeological or paleontological field work, and work effectively in adverse weather conditions.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS software is a plus.

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc...  Caveat Emptor though my friends.  Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work.  If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service.   You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum"  - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
