ARCHAEOLOGICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (Marion, Iowa)

 

The Louis Berger Group, Inc. (LBG) is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Laboratory Technician in support of our full-service archaeological laboratory located in the Cedar Rapids/Marion, Iowa metro area.  We are looking for dedicated, self motivated individuals wishing to provide quality archaeological services in a cultural resource management context.   Employment may start as soon as August 1, 2011.

 

DESCRIPTION

 

Under close supervision, responsible for the accurate and complete processing of archaeological collections recovered from projects throughout the United States.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Processing of artifacts, including washing and labeling, as directed

·      Ensuring artifact provenience information is correct, complete, and maintained throughout all stages of laboratory processing

·      Assisting with curation preparation, as directed

·      Processing samples, such as soil flotation, as directed

·      Other lab, office, or field related duties as assigned

·      Performs work in a laboratory setting with indoor and outdoor work areas

·      Adjusting to project and/or task assignments that may change quickly and/or frequently

·      Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments

·      Reports to Laboratory Supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

·      Minimum of a B.A./B.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field

·      Completion of an archaeological field school OR at least three months previous field and/or lab experience

·      Experience in North American archaeology is preferred

·      Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs

·      Proficiency in databases and MS Word and Excel is highly desirable

 

Competitive salaries; hourly pay is based upon experience.  Full benefits package includes vacation, sick leave, holidays, medical / dental / life / disability insurance, 401K plan, etc.
