[ShovelBums.Org] Archaeological Field Technicians - Salt Lake City, Utah

 

SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of environmental professionals who specialize in natural and cultural resource management, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance.

 

We are seeking to fill one or more Archaeological Field Technician positions within our Cultural Resources Program for our Salt Lake City office. These are temporary, hourly positions working up to 40 hours or more per week; depending on workload. Overtime is possible. Weekend only or part-time positions may be possible, depending on our projects. Per diem rates range from $39 to $46 per day and hotel room accommodations are provided.  Some projects require camping.  Travel time from the Salt Lake City office to the project area is paid.  Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Work in the field under the supervision of Field Supervisors conducting archaeological fieldwork;

·         Conduct archaeological monitoring, survey, testing and data recovery;

·         Walk a minimum of 6-9 miles per day conducting archaeological survey;

·         Demonstrate ability to contribute to team efforts during cultural resources field and lab work;

·         Take initiative, resolve problems, and create improved procedures to assure tasks are completed in the most effective manner;

 

Qualifications:

·         A Bachelor's Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field is preferable.

·         Field school or equivalent experience is also minimally required.

·         Knowledge and experience with archaeological survey and excavation techniques and methodology is required.

·         Knowledge of historic cultural resources and/or familiarity with Great Basin resources are also a plus.

·         Candidates must be able to travel, conduct fieldwork for long hours (sometimes in inclement weather conditions, often in rugged terrain and sometimes at high altitudes), and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
