[ShovelBums.Org] Senior Historical Archaeologist - California

 

Applied EarthWorks, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Senior Historical Archaeologist. This is a regular, full-time position. We are a consulting firm specializing in cultural resources management (CRM), prehistoric and historical archaeology, and historic preservation. Duties:

The successful candidate will assist the Historical Archaeology Program Manager in proposal preparation; development and implementation of research designs and treatment plans; supervising field and laboratory staff; technical report writing; and maintaining project schedules and budgets. 

 

Required Skills: 

Applicant should have experience directing investigations at historic period sites, performing archival research, preparing technical reports, and have an interest in 19th and 20th century research issues and material culture. Experience in urban archaeology, analysis of historical materials, and use of Harris Matrix recording system desired. Qualifications in architectural history and/or Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification a plus. Must have prior supervisory experience, a strong working knowledge of the regulatory setting, and proven written and oral communication skills.  Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, good communication skills, and ability to manage multiple projects. This person will function as a leader and integral team member.

 

Education/Experience:

M.A. or Ph.D. degree in history, historical archaeology, or related field required. Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification preferred. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in CRM.

 

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with experience. 

 

Duty Station: 

We currently maintain several offices in California and Oregon. Assignment at any of our California offices will be considered.
