Ashley National Forest (Vernal, Utah) is advertising positions for summer seasonal Archaeological Technicians.
Applications must be submitted by March 26, 2012. We anticipate filling up to two positions from each grade. We encourage all to apply.

Anticipated employment will be from May to August 2012.
POSITIONS:
Seasonal Archaeological Technician Crew Chief GS-0102-7
Seasonal Archaeological Technician GS-0102-5
Seasonal Archaeological Technician GS-0102-3
SALARY:
GS-7 Archaeological Technician Crew Chief - $18.59/hr.
GS-5 Archaeological Technician - $15.00/hr.
GS-3 Archaeological Technician - $11.95/hr
DUTIES FOR GS-3 POSITION:
The selected applicant conducts archaeological pedestrian surveys in a variety of terrains, landscapes, and elevations in support of Forest Heritage Program requirements; applies scientific methods to survey parcels of land to determine likely sites of archeological or historical interest; selects, interprets, and applies technical guidelines to analyze archeological data and prepares site forms to document findings; hikes in rough terrain and on steep slopes while carrying up to 25 pounds of field gear; Field work will be in a forest setting with exposure to rain, snow, cold, heat, dust, insects, wind, and lightning. The position requires that the employee wear a Forest service uniform.
DUTIES FOR GS-5 POSITION (in addition to above):
Serves as assistant crew chief, gathers and downloads field GIS data on a hand held professional grade GPS unit; compiles information and assists with the preparation of reports about the nature and extent of known cultural resources; and drives field vehicles in rugged and remote terrain. The position requires that the employee have a valid state driver's license.
DUTIES FOR GS-7 POSITION (in addition to above):
Serves as the field Supervisor or crew chief for a variety of survey projects; prepares and finalizes Archaeological site documentation from field surveys; writes reports for Forest Projects; makes National Register eligibility recommendations for archaeological sites ; and utilizes ArcGIS software to analyze data and prepare maps for site forms and reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-3:
1. One year of college with courses related to Archaeology/Anthropology, OR
2. Six months of general work experience in Archaeology/Anthropology, OR
3. A combination of education and general work experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-5 POSITIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology (or related field), OR
2. One year of technical archaeological work experience, OR
3. A combination of technical archaeological work experience and education that provided equivalent knowledge or training as above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-7 POSITIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in appropriate field and one year of graduate-level education, OR
2. Two years of technical archaeological work experience, OR
3. A combination of technical archaeological work experience and education that provided equivalent knowledge or training as above.
