ERM is seeking an Archaeological Principal Investigator to join our global consulting firm as part of our cultural resources team. Based in Houston, TX, the successful candidate must be a Secretary of the Interior-qualified Principal Investigator in Archaeology capable of leading projects throughout the U.S. The position includes business development, agency consultation, client advisory services, fieldwork, supervisory duties, research, and writing.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Expand ERM’s client base for cultural resources management in the region through business development.

·         Perform and oversee research at various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO), related facilities, and on-line.

·         Perform Area of Potential Effect (APE) structure surveys under the guidance of ERM’s architectural historian.

·         Perform and supervise Phase I, II, and III archaeological fieldwork and report on results.

·         Contribute to preparing EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with NEPA.

·         Perform construction monitoring and produce appropriate reports.

·         Prepare submittals for agency review.

·         Negotiate with state and federal agencies in cases of disagreement with recommended findings, and for difficult cases.

·         Assist with Tribal consultation, including escorting tribal representatives to visit project sites.

·         Perform local consultations.

·         Respond to public comments.

·         Provide additional information as requested by reviewing agencies, Tribes, local governments, and members of public.

·         Represent ERM through communications and at meetings with state, federal, and local agencies.

·         Communicate regularly with clients via email, meetings, and phone conferences.

·         Creatively solve problems to optimize a client-favorable outcome.

·         Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments per ASTM Standard.

·         Collect field data for natural resources compliance submittals.

·         Track the progress of numerous telecommunications projects through the entire compliance process.

·         Prepare NEPA-type documents for federal and/or state agencies, and/or providing strategic-level IAP support

 

REQUIREMENTS:

·         Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology a focus in Archaeology required in order meeting the Secretary of Interior requirements.

·         Minimum 5-10 years of consulting experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration or management.

·         Ability to carry research to completion.

·         Proven business development abilities.

·         Hold or be able to obtain a permit to work on state and public lands in numerous states.

·         Ability to work in the field 25-50% of the time. Extensive travel is required.

·         Excellent communication and computer skills.

·         Telecommunications and/or oil & gas industry experience. I expect they’ll need at least one, based on the work, but might not get both in one person, so added ‘or’

·         Ability to work within a team as well as independently.

·         Must have Texas experience.

·         Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, manage budgets, develop proposals, handle multiple project assignments, meet strict deadlines, and travel to client facilities.

·         For professionals in prehistoric archeology at least 5 years of full-time professional experience at a supervisory level in the study of archeological resources of the prehistoric period.

·         For professionals in historic archeology: at least 5 years of full-time professional experience at a supervisory level in the study of archeological resources of the historic period.
