[ShovelBums.Org] AE Hiring Field Technicians and Crew Chief for Survey on Lower Snake River, WA

 

Applied EarthWorks, Inc. is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians and a Crew Chief for a surface and subsurface survey of 1,700 acres along the Lower Snake River in Washington. Fieldwork will commence May 22, 2012 and is expected to continue until around August 8, 2012.
Per diem is $123/day. The field schedule is anticipated to run 10 days on and 4 days off. Per diem will be paid for the 10-day work sessions; subsistence and lodging for the four day breaks between sessions will be the crew member's responsibility.

Prior experience in the Columbia Plateau is preferred, but not required.

Minimum Requirements for Field Technicians:

•At least 1 year of experience with archaeological survey, site recording, and shovel probe excavation. A bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field is preferred.
•Be physically fit and able to handle strenuous field conditions and hot weather. Survey will entail hiking rugged terrain and steep slopes with loose rock. A rapid shovel probe excavation rate is required.
•Comfortable traveling in boats; travel to survey areas will often involve riding in motor boats.
Pay rate for Field Technicians is $16.81/hr. plus $3.56/hr. health and welfare benefit.

Minimum Requirements for Crew Chiefs:

•At least 1 years of full-time professional experience supervising field crews in archaeological surveys, including completing site forms, daily logs, photograph logs, and other necessary paperwork.
•Be able to write clear, concise, and professional descriptions of soils, local environmental conditions, cultural materials, features, and sites.
•Be physically fit and able to handle strenuous field conditions. Survey will entail hiking rugged terrain and steep slopes with loose rock. Crew chiefs are expected to excavate shovel probes while effectively supervising work of their crew of field technicians.
•Ability to use a Trimble GPS.
•Valid driver's license, with the ability to drive in rugged conditions.
•Comfortable traveling in boats on the river; travel to survey areas will often involve riding in motor boats.

Pay rate for the Crew Chief is $19.90/hr. plus $3.56/hr. health and welfare benefit.
