URS Corporation is seeking a Project Archaeologist for employment in the Dallas, Texas office. The work is expected to involve Phase I, Phase II, and/or Phase III archaeological investigations, monitoring, and other tasks as assigned.
The Project Archaeologist conducts fieldwork, assists the Principal Investigator in implementing and executing cultural resource projects, analyzes prehistoric and historic artifacts, and prepares reports of investigations and findings. He/she also supports regulatory compliance for commercial, Municipal, State, and/or Federal clients.
Other responsibilities include:
• Performs and/or leads surveys, excavation, monitoring, data recovery, laboratory analysis, data interpretation, and site form and report preparation under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
• Collects information and makes judgments through observation, interviews, and review of documents.
• Assists the Principal Investigator in the planning and directing of research.
• Assists and/or leads in the writing, presenting, and publishing of reports that record site prehistory and history, methodology, artifact analysis, and results, along with recommendations for interpreting the findings.
• Works with technical field and office staff, managers, and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet quality standards.
• Interacts with clients and regulatory agencies.
• Assists with agency and native American consultation.
• Participates in fieldwork and/or laboratory analyses.
• Conducts pre-field and/or post-field research.
• May be a task manager or manage segments of projects.
• May help with obtaining subcontractor quotes and monitoring performance.
• May assign tasks to and coordinate work, and provide general support and direction to more junior-level employees.
• Comply with URS safety policies while performing or supervising fieldwork.
• Independent completion of reports.
• Deliver projects on-time.
• Conduct projects within budget.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold a Master's degree in Archaeology/Anthropology from an accredited U.S. institution with a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience.
Must be proficient with prehistoric and/or historic archaeology, artifact analysis, report and site form preparation, and NEPA documentation.
Must have experience working with State and Federal review and regulatory agencies in a NRHP Section 106 capacity.
Must have experience working with commercial, Municipal, State, and/or Federal agency clients.
Must have the ability to fully plan and execute assignments with limited instruction.
Must be able to supervise Field Directors, Crews Chiefs, and/or Archaeological and Lab Technicians.
Must have working knowledge of GPS units and map reading skills.
Must have good communication skills and the ability to work in team environment.
Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time.
