Position: Archaeological Crew Member Positions for Haun & Associates on Hawai'i Island
Haun & Associates seeks highly motivated, dependable and experienced archaeologists for field crew positions in archaeological survey, data recovery and monitoring projects on Hawai'i Island. The ideal candidate will be physically capable of working in challenging environmental conditions, including extensive work in underground lava tubes. The positions could require travel, working in remote areas, occasional work away from the home office for extended periods, hiking in steep and rugged terrain over lava flows, and traversing 10 miles a day with a backpack weighing 40 lbs. We are looking for enthusiastic, team-oriented individuals who might require some training, but who already possess sufficient skills to function at a high level of competency.
Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience, and is highly competitive.
Minimum Qualifications: B.A. in Anthropology or Archaeology, field school training and 2 years of full-time professional experience in field archaeology, preferably in Hawai'i or the Pacific. Must be dependable, detail-oriented, organized, and demonstrate proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with Hawaiian archaeological sites and history
Ability to navigate difficult terrain with compass, GPS, and topographic maps
Ability to interact with clients, the public and colleagues in a professional and friendly manner
Responsibilities:
Identify, document, and map Hawaiian archaeological and historical sites
Excavate and screen archaeological deposits and keep meticulous paperwork
Identify and collect cultural material, including artifacts and subsistence remains
Ability to drive a 4-WD manual truck and obtain a Hawai'i state driver's license
Commitment to safety, professionalism and a high standard of archaeological ethics
Participate in problem resolution
Complete tasks efficiently
Assist supervisors as needed
Duties:
Participate in any phase of archaeological fieldwork as needed
Prepare complete and accurate field documentation for sites and field activities
Maintain field equipment
Coordinate and cooperate with other crew members, crew supervisors and senior staff
