[ShovelBums.Org] Public Archaeology camp Educator (Washington, DC)

 

Archaeology in the Community is currently seeking 3 excellent public archaeology educators available June through August for an upcoming summer camp located in Washington, DC.

Archaeology in the Community (AITC) uses experiential education methods to engage learners of all ages in an inclusive and dynamic study of the human past. The staff works toward this goal by teaching about past and present cultures and communicating the educational methods and theories to others. Archaeology, education, and applied anthropology provide the academic foundation for AITC programs.

AITC educators include individuals with academic and professional backgrounds in education, archaeology, anthropology, and museum studies. The staff collaborates with archaeologists and educators to develop educational programs that engage both children and young adults. Curricula and lesson plans emphasize an experiential approach to the understanding of archaeology.

Requirements:

The individual must interact with people at all levels and must have strong communication skills. Strong computer skills, detail-oriented, self-starter, problem solver, leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
• The person must have prior experience working with youth archaeology programs.
• The qualified candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or related
field with an emphasis in archaeology and have attended an archaeological field school.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Description:

The educators will teach 3 archaeology camps each two weeks in length. They will work together to run the camp, which consists of 20 students each on the campus of a local University in the District of Columbia. The camp will run from 12:00 to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Pay Rate: $10 for Co-teachers and $15 for Lead teacher
No Benefits
