[ShovelBums.Org] Field Technicians for Fall Fieldwork in Iowa

The University of Iowa - Office of the State Archaeologist seeks full time, temporary field technicians for survey and test excavations on various projects located in southeastern, central, and northwestern Iowa, beginning as early as September 10, 2012 and running through November.

*Hourly pay $10.00–$13.00, depending on experience.
*5-day, 40-hour weeks leaving from Iowa City and returning on weekends. Northwestern Iowa fieldwork may run continuously up to 10 days followed by four days off.
*Single room hotel paid and meal cost reimbursement up to $31/day
*Transportation to and from field provided in University vehicles.
*Preference will be given to those living within commuting distance of Iowa City or project locations.

We prefer, but do not require, experience with prehistoric and historic site investigations including pedestrian surface survey and shovel testing, test unit excavation, screening, soil description and other record keeping. A limited number of openings for lab work may follow fieldwork, so experience with artifact processing and analysis is also desirable. Computer skills including MSOffice and ArcGIS or CorelDraw, or skill in artifact illustration, flotation, or photography would be a plus. Above all, a professional attitude recognizing that OSA and its employees represent the University and the State of Iowa, combined with the ability to work congenially and effectively with others and a willingness to work hard and learn new skills are personal characteristics we value most.

Applications will be accepted through August 24, 2012. Email a current vita, 3 references, and your preferred contact information to:

Michael Perry
michael-perry@uiowa.edu

Acknowledgement of receipt of your application materials will be sent the week of August 27 and initial hiring decisions should be reached by August 31, 2012. Applications will be kept on file for possible openings as the fall survey season progresses.

The University of Iowa is an equal opportunity employer

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc...  Caveat Emptor though my friends.  Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work.  If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service.   You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum"  - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
