Re: [phono-tx] RATING OF PHONOLOGICAL DISORDERS

Janet,

Sorry but I can only give a somewhat generic response such as I give my
students:

1. good old ear training ala Van Riper - you'll to look up the procedures
in some older textbooks and then you have to create your own materials.
2. the SAILS (Speech Assessment and Interactive Learning System) software
could be used. It was sold through
http://www.Avaaz.com<http://www.avaaz.com/> but
I recall hearing recently that they don't sell it anymore. If Susan Rvachew
at McGill is on the list she (as one of the authors) might know the current
status of it.
3. use Hodson's auditory bombardment by itself or in combination with
production training.

Re: [phono-tx] RATING OF PHONOLOGICAL DISORDERS

Peter,
Can you brainstorm some types of auditory training? or point me towards some
good resources.

I tend to work on expressive skills, but recently have gotten several children
who "shut their ears." One in particular does not multitask. So when he is
doing something visually, he does not attend to auditory input. He's improving,
but slowly. I'd love to speed up his progress and wonder if I need to work on
"opening up his ears." He's 28 months old.

Rachel,

With perceptual problems (yes I believe that some children with SSD may have
perceptually based problems) I would use some type of auditory training.

[phono-tx] Re: how phono processes are "listed"

I'm afraid, as with so many things, there is no one definitive list! Different researchers have drawn up different lists.

[ShovelBums.Org] WCRM Employment Opportunity on Historic Landfill Excavation in Prescott, Arizona

WCRM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES- Immediate Positions Available in Arizona.

Western Cultural Resource Management, Inc. (WCRM) is a cultural resource management firm with offices in Colorado (Boulder), Nevada (Reno), New Mexico (Farmington), and Arizona (Scottsdale).  We are currently seeking to fill nine positions for an excavation at historic Fort Whipple in Prescott, Arizona.  The project is scheduled to begin on August 10, 2010, and will last at least through the end of the month.  Crew wages are $13.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on experience, and crew chief positions at a higher wage are also available.

No per diem is available for this project so we are looking for residents of the greater Prescott area or those that can commute to the project area daily to fill these positions (no drive time or mileage will be paid).  The crew will work eight hour days and crew chiefs may be asked to work 10 hour days.  Each work session will be 10 days long, with four days off in between sessions.

Expertise in the identification and analysis of historic era artifacts is strongly preferred, and all applicants need to have at least a BA in anthropology.  The project consists of excavating in a late 19th century to mid 20th century landfill, with some of the deposits likely being related to medical facilities.  If hazardous materials are encountered, employees will be properly advised and outfitted with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).  All personnel working in the field lab will be required to wear a half-mask respirator.

WCRM, Inc. does not tolerate drugs, firearms, or pets within company property or on project areas.

To apply please fax (775-358-1387) or email a vita and cover letter to:

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only.: announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc...  Caveat Emptor though my friends.  Not all jobs pay the same, nor is their treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work.  If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it, and in turn you provide your employer with excellent service.   You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "shovelbum"  - the name is in jest - act professional, expect to be treated like one.
